It is a festival of musical culture, with a completely different character from many that I know.

For 10 days between Sines – from the Castle Walls to Avenida da Praia, and Praça Marquês in Porto Côvo, you can hear all kinds of musical influences.

From China to Jamaica, everything we hear seems to be a selection of the best, because even between too much beer, all the sounds are mesmerizing, flamenco and Samba, Israeli pop, tambourines, and almost industrial electronics, bagpipes and electric guitar solos, in a relationship between traditional culture and modern art, “it’s an unbeatable musical experience” as I read somewhere.

How many stories and memories I have of this festival!

It has already become a date of friends reunion, that sometimes doesn’t even meet the rest of the year.

I can not tell you much more, except that it’s the biggest craziness, the stories always have a mix of straw hats from the promotions and lots of beer.

Tips for who lives here:

Happily or unfortunately, Portugal is one of the freest countries I know. What I mean is that you can do just about anything. And especially in this period, it is usual to camp or stops caravan wherever you want. In any other country that I know you can’t, but here YOU CAN! Therefore, if you have a tent or caravan, the custom is in any place to be mounted a hippie camp, in such a way that sometimes I can not stop the car at home’s door or enter home by my terrace, because on these dates mainly, but a little all summer, there are campers everywhere. The “new neighbours”, usually “super is everything in the alright”, are always very friendly, but with little manners,… Practically they use my barbecue and the shower of the yard, (to wash food, only, because in this Festival season no ones seem to wash take many showers,… 🙊

Please don’t be hard on me, I’m just saying what everyone thinks!

Well, for the more civic or for those who want the well-deserved comfort, here are my tips to eat, sleep and eventually take a break from music and spend time with some other activity:

To Sleep: My favourite place of all is O Lugar Guesthouse, right in the centre of Porto Côvo, overlooking our harbor. A house with modern architecture, with a simple decoration and liiiinda! Then there is the Porto Côvo Hotel, also 2 steps from the center, with swimming pool, gym and the normal facilities of a hotel. If you do not want to sleep in the middle of the noise, I advise you to leave about 6 km and go to Pessegueiro Island, in the Ilha do Pessegueiro Camping Park, where the staff will be ready to welcome you with great affection and affection.

To finish with the accommodations, and for those who like special experiences, I also advise the renovated space of Costa do Vizir Camping, and now, although I have not yet done the experience, I advise Glamping, a new concept here, and super suitable for our warm summer evenings.

Do not forget, July is high season around here !! Book as soon as possible !!!

Our appetizers: any fish or shellfish in the well-known Beerhouse and Marisqueira Marquês, right in the center of Porto Côvo and in Sines the Cais da Estação where I advise a Rice of Lingueirão and Choco Frito dish awarded Best Rice of Portugal 2013, never forgetting that even on the edge of the castle walls we have the Bom Remédio Café for all kind of meals, all the good remedies that Sines offers with energy and flavor. Ending the night in the bar Nº6 of Luís where the party in Sines happens, yes because there are more Sines after the FMM!

Then do not forget a “suminho” by the sea in the bar of the  Kalux Restaurant in S. Torpes Beach where you can enjoy the beach or go surf, or in Kalux Baia, even facing the Bay of Sines.

Hope you enjoy my tips, from a local to all of you.
